Our School
Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Training School was formerly known as San Wo Public School. Although they were all designed for educational purposes, they needed to be modified in many aspects due to the different service targets. Mr. Cheung Wai Man, the founding president of the center, had determined to introduce seeing eye dog services to Hong Kong around 2000, and spent ten years studying seeing eye dog related affairs around the world. In the design of the seeing eye dog training school, a wealth of information has been collected, and it will finally be realized in 2022. The following is the design concept and brief introduction of Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Training School.
There are nine small buildings in the school. The storage room, tea room and toilet are just as the name suggests, and need no special introduction. On the front of the school is the administrative building, which is the operation center of the school. In addition to offices and conference rooms, there is also a multi-functional activity room for public education.
The kennels are distributed in three different locations of the school for their specific purposes. The main kennel is located to the north of the school and is a separate building containing the staff offices and ten kennels. The dog room is spacious, with an area of about 3.3 square meters, and it is generally used for the accommodation of seeing eye dogs. The nursery is located on the south side of the administrative building, and can serve as a short-term residence for two female dogs and their puppies at the same time. The isolation kennel is located at the west corner of the user training building. The purpose is to recuperate seeing eye dogs with infectious diseases here; it can accommodate four sick seeing eye dogs at the same time.
The dog’s health is very important, next to the isolation kennel is the veterinary room. In addition to the basic animal electronic scales, various other facilities are being added one after another to meet the needs of school seeing eye dogs.
To take care of our seeing eye dogs, the school also has two service buildings, a dog kitchen and a grooming room. Of course, the kitchen is used as a place to prepare dog food, and there is also a dedicated storage room for dog food. The grooming room is used for showering and grooming for dogs, and it is also a workshop for cleaning dog blankets.
In terms of learning and training, the school mainly provides a safe environment for the visually impaired and seeing eye dogs to learn.
One of the service targets of Hong Kong Seeing Eye Dog Training School is seeing eye dog users, who are all visually impaired. During the stay at the school for training, various facilities can be used, including a simulated troop line with traffic lights, a simulated tunnel for entering and exiting light and dark environments, and a study room for learning a certain theoretical knowledge. When they need to rest, there is also a dedicated lounge.
Dog training facilities include seeing eye dog schools, movable stainless steel columns to avoid obstacles at half waist height, ground of various materials (fine stone ground of different sizes, glass panels, elastic playground ground, floor tiles, grass, etc. .Simulate pedestrian bridges and tunnels, narrow alleyways, indoor training grounds, and more.
