Should a user require the assistance of an ambulance in a public area, the Seeing Eye Dog should be handled in the following ways:

The user is awake and able to hold the dog leash The user is unconscious
In the ambulance
  • Seeing Eye Dogs are specially selected for their friendly, calm nature, and are trained to remain relaxed and non-aggressive in all situations. Therefore they pose no danger to medical attendants.
  • The Seeing Eye Dog should be allowed to follow the user into the ambulance with the leash held by the user.
  • Seeing Eye Dogs are specially selected for their friendly, calm nature, and are trained to remain relaxed and non-aggressive in all situations. Therefore they pose no danger to medical attendants.
  • The Seeing Eye Dog should follow the user to the ambulance. Place it near the user, in a comfortable and safe place with the leash tied to a secured object.
  • Contact HKSEDS staff as soon as possible by calling 8113 2577 which is shown on the name tag of the Seeing Eye Dog’s collar.
In the hospital
  • The Seeing Eye Dog should be kept beside the user. Ask the user whether further assistance is required.
  • A bed sheet or towel can be used as a cushion for the Seeing Eye Dog.
  • Contact HKSEDS staff as soon as possible by calling 8113 2577 which is shown on the name tag of the Seeing Eye Dog’s collar.
  • Without affecting other patients or people, the Seeing Eye Dog should be kept beside the user with the leash tied to a secured object. A bed sheet or towel can be used as a cushion for the Seeing Eye Dog.
  • Provide water in a bowl for the Seeing Eye Dog. No feeding.
  • Wait for our staff to pick up the Seeing Eye Dog.
